Praying the Micah Challenge |
|
Micah Challenge is a global Christian campaign. It aims to deepen Christians engagement with the poor and challenge leaders to achieve the Millennium Development Goals, halving absolute global poverty by 2015.
This interactive prayer activity is designed to allow people to take time to reflect and be engaged with the issues of global poverty in a physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual way, bringing them to God in prayer. People may reflect at their own pace, and have the freedom to interact with as many activities as they wish.
It is helpful to play some appropriate music from another culture to set the mood for people to reflect. Set up each prayer activity on a separate piece of cloth around the edges of the room. Prayer activities are centered around each Millennium Development Goal (MDG) and include the following:
- the goals and indicators for each MDG
- the instructions for each prayer activity, which have a short anecdote or facts with accompanying prayer activity.
- the objects to interact with the corresponding Bible verses for people to reflect on; the Bible verses can be cut out and placed on the corresponding activities
- prayers relating to each MDG
Possible follow up activities:
- a resource station for people to sign the Micah Call, take postcards and other resources
- discussion in pairs/triplets about what impacted them particularly while interacting with the prayer stations, then pray together
- planning for action – what can the group do together to get involved in the Micah Challenge?
